Presentation Skills Trainer Course FAQs

A great presentation combines a clear structure (opening, body, close), engaging delivery (varied pace, tone, and eye contact), appropriate visual aids, audience interaction, and confident body language. Research shows that audiences remember content better when it is delivered with enthusiasm, supported by visuals, and structured around three key messages.
Presentation anxiety (also known as glossophobia) affects up to 75% of people. Effective strategies include thorough preparation and rehearsal, controlled breathing techniques, positive visualisation, focusing on the audience's needs rather than your own performance, and gradual exposure to presenting in progressively larger groups. The course covers all of these techniques in detail.
Effective slides follow the principle of 'one idea per slide'. Key elements include: minimal text (no more than 6 words per bullet point); high contrast between text and background; consistent fonts (no more than two); relevant, high-quality images; and a clear visual hierarchy. Avoid clip art, excessive animations, and small fonts. The 10-20-30 rule (10 slides, 20 minutes, 30-point font minimum) is a useful guideline.
Engaging a difficult or disengaged audience requires a toolkit of techniques: ask direct questions to involve individuals; use relevant, real-world examples that connect to the audience's experience; vary your pace, tone, and delivery method; use humour appropriately and self-deprecatingly; acknowledge the audience's expertise and experience; and build in regular breaks and interactive activities.
Your Presentation Skills Trainer certificate is valid for 3 years from the date of issue. Presentation techniques and training delivery best practice evolve with new research and technology, so renewal training ensures your skills remain current and effective.
The rule of three is a principle that information presented in groups of three is more memorable, satisfying, and persuasive than other groupings. It is used extensively in rhetoric, storytelling, and marketing. Examples include 'tell them what you'll tell them, tell them, tell them what you told them' and structuring key messages as three main points.
The optimal length of a presentation depends on the audience, context, and content. Research suggests that most people's concentration begins to wane after 10–20 minutes without a change of activity. TED Talks are limited to 18 minutes for this reason. For longer sessions, build in regular breaks, interactive activities, and changes of pace to maintain engagement.
Yes — the Presentation Skills Trainer Award is applicable across all sectors. Presentation skills are a universal professional competency required in healthcare, education, corporate, legal, and public sector environments. The course covers both formal presentations and informal briefings, making it relevant to any professional context.
